Chemical & Physical Biology

Chemical + Physical Biology

Chemical and Physical Biology (CPB) seeks to understand biology as a chemical and physical science. We are interested in atoms, molecules, structure and mechanism, and employ chemical and quantitative approaches to understand biological function and regulation at the molecular level.

CPB faculty use the tools of x-ray crystallography, NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, biophysical chemistry and synthetic chemistry to solve problems in cellular signaling, infectious disease, transcriptional regulation and membrane protein structure and quality control. We are home to our NIH-funded Graduate Training Program in Quantitative and Chemical Biology (QCB) (qcb@iub) and our nascent Biophysics and Structural Biology (BSB) working group.
